Tomato Cinnamon Clove Preserve

This is a California State Fair and Lake County Fair 1st place winner and boy is it unique and good! The ingredients are organic tomatoes, organic sugar, lemons, cloves, cinnamon and lemon juice concentrate.

This is not a typical preserve that you would put on toast; this is a sophisticated combination of flavors to baste meats with and to drizzle over perfect Brie.

The color is a deep tomato red and whole cloves and chopped pieces of lemon rind can easily be seen in the thick chopped tomato and sugar preserve.

One minute you think that this is sweet. The next, it is savory with tomato and then spicy with clove. It keeps your tongue guessing and your eyes interested.

The owner has a simple, simple recipe for baby back ribs that will demonstrate perfectly how elegant this preserve is when used as meat baste.

The original recipe for this preserve came from the owner’s grandmother and was used to baste ham with. I like it as suggested on Brie, with a simple water cracker.

This award winning combination has punch and intrigue and will elicit comments from whoever tastes it. In a beautiful hex jar with a gold top and an elegant cream-colored label with three pears on it, this would make a stunning and unusual gift. Keep several on your own shelf for impromptu gift giving, but treat yourself to some of it by putting it on a bagel with cream cheese. Wonderful!
