Oatmeal Raisin Walnut Cookies by Chunkie Dunkies

Oatmeal Raisin Walnut Cookies
by Chunkie Dunkies

Love at first bite! Can’t stop eating them. You would never know these cookies are healthy, they are that good.

Being a product reviewer does have its benefits, especially in the cookie department. So reviewing Chunkie Dunkies is music to my tummy. Me, being the ultimate cookie monster, I definitely know a good cookie when I see one. At first blush, looking at the Chunkie Dunkies, I didn’t expect much. They looked pretty ordinary, much like a hefty, dense scoop of cookie dough, ready to go into the oven. But not these little Chunkies. These little Chunkies never go into an oven. In fact they arrive at your door in a box of 5, slightly frozen and ready to eat. Of course, they are meant to be eaten thawed, however, any way you eat a Chunkie Dunkie, is the right way. The price: $6.49, without shipping.

A little background. I discovered Chunkie Dunkies at the Natural Product Expo West in Anaheim. I was in a rush, and as I said, not too impressed at first blush. And being a gal not wanting to waste a calorie on a bad cookie, I picked up one chocolate chip cookie and left. BIG MISTAKE. It was love at first bite. I had to get more. I ordered a whole bunch of cookies and brownies to review and got the entire team involved. Tough job, but we made our way through.

Yeah, I can tell you that the cookie is Raw, Vegan, Non GMO, Paleo friendly, dairy free, gluten free, organic ingredients, 100% plant based, all the things we look for, but what good does it do if it doesn’t taste good?

I called the founder of Chunkie Dunkies, Dina Lauro, who also happens to be a Raw Gourmet Chef and teaches Vegan/Raw cooking at Hypocrites Institute in Florida. Established in 2011, Dina told me she wanted a healthier snack to enjoy. Something that satisfied her but that also was delicious and fit into her Vegan lifestyle. VOILA! Chunkie Dunkies was born.

But let’s, get back to more important stuff, like the cookie. Now, I have to tell you. I am not a big fan of Oatmeal Raisin cookies. Never have been. Chocolate chip is my favorite. But I did my duty and took my first bite thinking it would be my last. Oh, that was not the case. I was shocked at how good it tasted. I thought, well that tasted pretty good, not expecting I would ever desire another one. So, I put the oatmeal raisin away for the rest of the team. But I kept going back. I kept going in for another, till Bron had to grab the box from me to save for the others. I was shocked! What was it? Was it the cinnamon? The maple syrup? I can only describe my new love affair with this oatmeal raisin cookie due to the combination and integrity of ingredients and the texture in my mouth. I became an addict.

Like I said, I know a good cookie when I see one, but more importantly, when I taste one. Like a fine wine, every ingredient came alive in my mouth, like a flavor explosion. Loaded with walnuts, raisins, gluten-free oats and cinnamon. Having never really tasted a fabulous Oatmeal Raisin cookie, I suspect the Chunkie Dunkie Oatmeal is the way all oatmeal are supposed to taste, but fall short. Heck, even the raisins taste good. Check out the 8 ingredients:

Raw walnuts, gluten-free rolled oats, *sprouted buckwheat grouts, pure maple syrup, *extra virgin coconut oil, *raisins, vanilla (vegetable glycerin, *vanilla beans), *cinnamon, sea salt *(organic).

Sometimes the word healthy/Vegan/Organic gives food a bad name because healthy usually means flavor less. SO NOT THE CASE with all the Chunkie Dunkies. Just don't tell people they are healthy. They will never know and you will have people fighting over the box.

The only bad thing is you won’t be able to stop eating them. There are worse vices...

PROS: EVERYTHING. Flavor, sumptuous textures, satisfies sweet tooth. Only 8 ingredients. Organic raisins.

CONS: Can’t stop eating them. Could be worse vices.
