This Barbeque sauce, has in my opinion, two factors that set it apart from most Barbeque sauces: it has the rare Datil pepper in it, and it’s not too hot.
For those of you who have not been to the St. Augustine area which is the only place that the Datil pepper grows, you may not be familiar with the distinct flavor that the Datil gives to the foods that its in.
For those always looking for a new flavor approach, this is it! For those who value their tongue and prefer to have it taste, rather than go numb with heat, this sauce is for you too.
The all-natural ingredients are tomato concentrate, distilled vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire, Minorcan Datil mustard, celery salt, spices, paprika and Datil peppers.
A full 16-ounces of a unique and hearty flavor that glazes well when it’s cooked, and has a come back for more piquancy when dipped into.
The color of the sauce is a deep maroon red, and the spices are visible in the clingy mixture. The aroma is sweet sour and spicy, and gets the juices going. The taste is a great balance of sweet to pungent and the spices are plentiful and well chosen. Not too hot, but making its presence known is the elusive taste of the rare Datil pepper that pulls this Barbeque sauce into the realm of differently great. We broiled this onto chicken and then dipped into it. It was pretty addictive! Both of us commented on how it would be a unique sauce to dip cold shrimp into…and of course, slathered on ribs, no one will complain! You won’t find anything like it on a grocery store shelf..and that’s why it’s Pure-Zing!
