Never made your own applesauce before? It’s easy! This ruby-red recipe is so delicious you will never settle for store-bought applesauce again.
Yield: 6 cups
INGREDIENTS:
2 lb. Gala apples (quartered and seeded, do not peel)
2 lb. red or black plums (quartered and pitted)
¼ cup water
1/8 cup sugar
DIRECTIONS:
Over medium low heart, cook all ingredients in a covered 5 quart pot. Stir occasionally.
Cook 2 - 3 hours till the fruit is very soft and the liquid is decreased.
Force through a sieve, pushing with a rubber spatula. Discard peels.
Can be cooked longer if you want a richer flavor and thicker consistency.
Great with roast chicken, over other fruit and with ice cream and whipped cream. Can also be served over pancakes, or just enjoy it as a delicious apple sauce all by itself.
