Since young we’ve heard of amazing things about vitamins. Vitamins can be found in small amount or large quantities in foods. Everybody knows that more than meat and dairy, vegetable & fruits are nutrient-rich foods that are the basis of life. Despite all facts & knowledge, people still prefer a good well-done steak, sometimes even without a side salad. Knowing the vitamins’ distribution in different foods might “open your eyes” to our body’s needs. Vitamin A is considered ” beauty vitamin”, because it protects the skin, mucous membranes and eyes. It is found in big quantities in carrots, apricots, spinach lettuce, milk, cheese, liver, eggs, fish oil, fat fish. Vitamin B1 is considered “nervous vitamin” because it protects the peripheral nerves; it is produced by mushrooms, yeast, bran bread, nuts. Vitamin B2 is another “nerve vitamin”, found in vegetables, liver, yeast, milk & cheese. Vitamin C is “resistance vitamin”, because it strengthens the body’s defence against toxins & infections; it is found in fruits, vegetables, citrus, parsley, pepper. Vitamin D is called “sunshine vitamin”, it might as well be called the “anti-bone problems vitamin”, since it’s main function is to fix Calcium& Phosphorus in bones and teeth; it can be found in eggs, butter, sour cream, milk, mushrooms, liver oil. Vitamin E i s “fertility vitamin” and “sex vitamin”; found in vegetable oil, bran cereals, eggs, milk and meat. Vitamin K is “anti-haemorrhagic vitamin” and is found in vegetable oils and eggs. Deficiency of vitamin K is found in liver disease, cirrhosis, etc. Vitamin PP is the “growth vitamin” found in liver, yeast, meat, milk, bread and vegetables.
