Frankincense & Myrrh – ‘Meditation’ Soy Candle
I returned to the office at 8pm. I had some light work before finally heading home. I noticed this unique, gleaming, smallish, tin sitting squarely on my keyboard. A note read “Enjoy!” ‘How quaint, how very, very quaint’ I thought. Frankly, I don’t envision most men viewing a candle as something to ‘enjoy’: more of a, ‘what the heck is this for?’ reaction in my book. It occurs to me, many males aren’t firing up candles to freshen their surroundings at work or elsewhere… although maybe someone was trying to tell me something! I removed the lid, snatched a match and ignited the wick. Hmmm, what is that magnificent fragrance? The lid read: Soy Candle, Frankincense & Myrrh. For those who only think of these spices in relation to the holiday season, now hear this, these spices are, ‘An exotic blend of Moroccan Rose, Egyptian Sandalwood, Madagascar Vanilla, East Indian Patchouli and a bouquet of Cedar underlined by Italian Orange with a sweet musky background.’ That’s the kind of rich and sultry combination that would work for me all year long! Ok, Ok, whoever bequeathed this contribution had my attention. I discovered soy wax candles burn longer than normal ‘wax’ candles, burning ‘soot free’, not emitting those harsh, nasty chemicals, like benzene, into the air as I absorb the warmth of the waft. This isn’t some run-of-the-mill soy candle; it oozed freshness…probably because it is Kosher soy oil with the FDA’s nod. As I leaned back, the scent appeared vibrant, enchanting, not overbearing like candles I had painfully endured at a friend’s house recently. Another interesting side note, the candle burns much cooler than the conventional flame, which is safer, in the event someone, or some critter, were to get too close. ‘Time to head home’, I thought. ‘No, no, a bit longer, let’s bathe those tired olfactory senses’… the thought played out as I relaxed. I happened to see some smaller print on the beautiful cinnamon brown colored label that read, ‘Meditation’. You have to admit, there exists cosmic warmth when staring into the reflection of a pool of wax, the flickering flame, or both. What’s’ that about a moth being drawn to a flame? With the intense warm glow, I felt renewed; like I had experienced a power nap and meditated. I had without even knowing it.
