Not all of us have access to a clothesline that sits in sunshine and clean air. So we have done what we thought was second best and used dryer sheets to impart that fresh-off-the-line fragrance. Little did we know that those synthetic fragrances were toxic, to smell, and to absorb into our skin directly from the clothes that it coats.
Here is an age-old but elegant solution: lavender linen water. From essential oils of lavender, clothes can be rinsed in or spritzed with the most classic and serene fragrance of all. The fragrance on this is rich and full, not sweet like some lavender preparations. The only way to describe the hint of citrus in the top note is to liken it to crumbling fresh lavender buds in your hand.
The ingredients are filtered water, a blend of pure essential oils, alcohol (from grain), and polysorbate 20, which is derived from berries and fruits. In a 32-ounce spray top bottle, you have plenty with which to spray your sheets and pillowcases at night, to add to the rinse water of delicates, and to add to the final rinse in the washing machine of articles you may want to dry flat, or let drip dry.
Our team used this is the final rinse water of bed pillows and all their cases, fluffed them a little in a cool dryer and finished drying them outside. What a fragrance: the kind that you bury your nose in and inhale over and over and over till you’re almost dizzy!
Ladies of yore would rinse their handkerchiefs in lavender water, spray lavender water on their hair for fragrance and shine, and revive old lavender sachets with a rinse of this essential oil laden water.
