Ginger Pear Salad Dressing A Perfect Pear
Cut a pear in half and that is the color of this Ginger Pear dressing. In a tall 12-ounce glass bottle with a creamy white label with a sketch of a leafy branch with three pears on it, this looks lovelier than most dressing bottles available in the grocery store.
The fragrance is fresh pear, ginger and lemon, and it comes across as Asian. Don’t think sweet and sour pork though; think light, fresh and gingery. While the dressing pours easily it has enough thickness to coat the bottle and gently coat greens.
The ingredients are organic pear puree, pear juice concentrate, ginger and lemon juice concentrate so you can get an idea of the consistency and light fresh fragrance and flavor. The fruitiness of the pear and lemon come through first, leaving just the right hint of ginger as a finish on your tongue.
Don’t put this with anything too strong or heavy or it will get lost. Pair this with more delicate foods and it will complement them without drowning them out. The owner suggests a salad of greens with toasted walnuts, sliced pears and Gorgonzola cheese. She says that this dressing also enhances cottage cheese and her own Coleslaw recipe of grapes, pears, cabbage and ginger (see the recipe page for Napa Cole Slaw).
I think this would be perfect on a fresh, tropical fruit salad. There are times when we all want a delicate salad and dressing, or a way to enhance some subtle food. This is your solution. Light, fruity and with the slightest aftertaste of ginger, you will find yourself reaching for this pale golden dressing in the elegant bottle.
