PranaBars

PranaBars
Divine Foods, Inc

When someone says, ‘Oh, you must try this mostly-raw, organic, no-sugar-added Vegan food product,’ do you run away, screaming for your mommy? What if they mentioned that it was also gluten-free, soy-free, dairy-free and unprocessed? Would you start tearing your hair out, as well? Well, don’t! The days of food with all those properties tasting like wet cardboard are over, thanks to Divine Foods, Inc. They have come out with an amazing product in the PranaBar.

I was able to taste-test all six flavors of PranaBar, and I liked them all. I also liked the fact that, in addition to the above characteristics, these snack bars boast non-GMO ingredients. What goes that mean? GMO means ‘genetically modified organism’ – and that is just a tad bit scary. I don’t find comfort in eating things that have been genetically engineered, so I get excited when I find a food product that advertises non-GMO. One more cool thing about the PranaBar? They are Enzyme Active. I won’t go into too much detail about enzymes, but suffice it to say that enzymes help your body break down the foods you eat. We need enzymes.

One thing you must know before going out to buy and eat these 1.7 ounce energy bars: since they are mostly raw (save for the nuts and seeds), they are going to be rather sticky. That means that you shouldn’t just unwrap it and toss the wrapper away. Use the wrapper to keep the sticky at bay. Otherwise, after you finish eating and are sucking the remaining enzymes off your digits, there is a danger that you’ll be caught with your thumb in your mouth. After that, don’t be surprised if you are given blue blankets and nicknamed Linus. Heed my advice!

Apricot Goji – This bar was pretty good. I do like the taste and health benefits of dried apricots, so I thought this would be my favorite bar. For the first time ever, I was wrong! For my tastes, I put this as my second favorite. I liked the mild taste of apricot and the mild tangy taste of Goji. My daughter, however, commented: ‘This one gave me gas.’ Ingredients: organic almond butter, organic date paste, organic cashews, organic dried apricots, organic agave nectar, organic puffed amaranth, Goji dry powder, sea salt.

Cashew Almond – For those of you who love nuts, this bar is for you. The cashews and almonds provide your sticky bar with some crunch and texture. Ingredients: organic cashews, organic date paste, organic almonds, organic almond butter, organic agave nectar, organic puffed amaranth, sea salt.

Apricot Pumpkin – There was a slight difference in taste between this bar and the Apricot Goji bar, as expected. For those who like apricots but don’t like the mild taste of pumpkin seeds, go with the other apricot bar. This bar, however, does not overwhelm you with pumpkin. Perhaps Thanksgiving dessert will never be the same? Ingredients: organic dried apricots, organic pumpkin seeds, organic date paste, organic almond butter, organic agave nectar, organic puffed amaranth, sea salt.

Pear Ginseng – I liked this flavor. It didn’t offend me with overwhelming spices, but still managed to mask the ginseng, which I know to be quite bitter. No bitterness here. It tastes great. Ingredients: organic almond butter, organic date paste, organic sesame seeds, dried pears, organic almonds, organic agave nectar, organic puffed amaranth, ginseng, sea salt.

Cinnamon Apple – When you bite into this bar, there will be no doubt in your mind that there is cinnamon inside. Wow! This was better than a big, fat cinnamon bun! Great taste, with the added benefit of actually being good for you – will you be able to replace those sinful buns with this beautiful bar? Give it a shot. Ingredients: organic walnuts, organic almond butter, organic dried apple, organic date paste, organic agave nectar, organic puffed amaranth, organic ground cinnamon, sea salt.

Coconut Acai – This was my favorite! I have this coconut obsession, so I knew I would be very critical of this bar if it didn’t live up to my very-snooty, coconut-loving palate. Plus, I was thinking, what in the world is Acai…and how do you pronounce that word?! Acai (ah-sigh-ee) describes a berry found in Brazilian rainforests. Apparently, it is full of antioxidants, amino acids and essential fatty acids. Sign me up, because that bar was delicious. The mild coconut flavor and a hint of Acai really go well together. Sticky thumbs way up. Ingredients: organic almond butter, organic date paste, organic agave nectar, organic raisins, organic almonds, organic puffed amaranth, organic dried coconut, Acai dry powder, sea salt.

Raw, no added sugar, enzymes and flavor galore: you’ll love these sticky, yummy, healthy, all natural bars! Every single one of them was Pure… and definitely had Zing!
