Sylk It’s pretty amazing how much we take for granted: like personal lubricants. All we usually think about them is how slick are they and will they stain or negatively affect latex. So when we were asked to review this product, we were amazed to realize that many of us may be forgetting a very important thing: is it natural or does it have chemicals and other questionable ingredients in it? In reviewing this product, I was forced to search out what it does NOT contain. Common ingredients in personal lubricants are: silicone, parabens, polymers, nonoxynol 9, flavor extracts and colorings…mostly chemical and some with known toxicity and irritants. Yes, the main ingredient is an extract from the Kiwifruit plant that is natural, hydrating and soothing! Here is another interesting item. The pH of this lubricant is 4.7, which is the same as the pH of a woman: how much better for a lubricant to be of the same pH as the environment in which it will be used! Many lubricants have a pH of 7.0 which require preservatives be added to them so that molds and yeasts won’t grown. This is water-based, will not stain fabrics and is safe for latex. To avoid any allergic reactions, no aromas or flavors have been added. The natural fragrance is a faint sweetness and the natural flavor is faintly green. Almost clear, the mixture is light and barely has a tint to it, which according to the manufacturer is its natural coloring. It is slick with no stickiness or buildup, and although light in texture and thin appearing, it does not drip or run. It remains in a slick state for a long time, and upon absorbing or drying, it leaves no stickiness or residue behind. With all natural ingredients that are widely known for their benefits, you will not have a concern about its use, or any of it remaining on your body. The container is sort of silver looking plastic with a white flip-top lid. Unobtrusive, the bottle is a small, 1.4-ounce size with an attractive logo in blue and purple. This is small enough to fit in a pocket or purse and the smaller size would more easily be used up, ensuring use of fresh product. After reading about what is commonly found in lubricants, and reading about the natural ingredients in this product, I would not personally feel safe using anything with chemicals…especially not when you can get the same results safely and naturally.
