Damask Rose Hand and Body Balm

The creator of this hand and body balm has six essential oil fragrances available in this formulation: Vanilla Bean, Rose Geranium, Orange Blossom, Lavender, Jasmine and of course, Damask Rose. Each one has its distinctive fragrance and aromatherapy benefits, but from the four samples that we were sent, we chose Damask Rose to review due to its varied uses.

Damask Rose is an essential oil that has been used by women over the centuries. Rose oil of any kind takes many pounds of rose petals to garner just a few drops of precious oil, but women have been drawn to it not only for its preciousness and fragrance, but for the way that it soothes and nourishes dry and mature skin conditions. Other qualities of this essential oil are relieving depression, tension, stress, poor circulation, high blood pressure, coughs, regulating hormones and reducing the inflammation of eczema, herpes and broken capillaries.

As rose oil is antiseptic, antiviral, astringent and bactericidal, this is the perfect essential oil to have in a clean, organic, nourishing and healing balm base. The ingredients are more than 70% organic and are certified organic coconut oil, certified organic extra virgin olive oil, organic Rosa Damascena rose petals, organic lavender flower buds, certified organic sunflower oil, organic vanilla bean, certified organic jojoba oil, beeswax, avocado oil, Rosa Damascena rose oil, palmarosa oil, sandalwood oil, vetiver oil, lemon oil and vitamin E.

The consistency is almost a solid: this balm melts with the heat of your fingers and spreads over your hands, knees, elbows, neck and feet very easily. When you gather a little more on your fingertips and rub over a larger area of your body, the Damask Rose fragrance is really released…and lasts like a subtle and rich perfume. The balm melts into your skin and rather than leaving a greasy feel it leaves behind a smooth feel and a dewy moist appearance.

Even with the inclusion of sandalwood, vetiver and lemon oil to tame the floral tones of the rose oil, this is decidedly a woman’s fragrance and balm. The men on our team appreciated the slightly spicy and fresh floral scent…but favored the Vanilla Bean essential oil fragrance for themselves.

Whether you choose Lavender, Rose Geranium or any of the other balms, the 2-ounce glass jar will last, will moisturize and will soothe every part of your body. A great hand balm, we liked this for cuticles as well as taming sun redness and attacking dry heels and feet.
